Myopia, which means not being able to see far, is spreading rapidly in children and adults, depending on the use of phones and tablets. By 2050, half of the world's population will have myopia.

Myopia (shortsightedness disease), which has recently become one of the most common eye diseases in children and even adults, is like an epidemic. According to the predictions of scientists, by 2050 half the world will be myopic. Because children do not go outside without looking at tablets and computers. Yeditepe University Ophthalmology Research and Application Center Ophthalmologist states that the most important reason for the increase in myopia cases in childhood is that children stay indoors and look at the computer too much. He made statements about being in open environments that require sun exposure and looking 6 meters away for eye health.

No more than 20 minutes should be spent using a Phone, Tablet, or Computer

Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine Ophthalmologist stated that myopia is spreading rapidly all over the world and said, “This is also the case in our country. The reason for this is that children spend a lot of time on phones, tablets, and computers that they look closely at. Previously, children used to play in the street and the park. Now they spend a lot of time in closed, dimly lit environments. This is shown as a major factor in the increase in myopia. For example, since myopia has increased so much in the Far East, children living there are offered treatment options such as 'playing in the street under the sun rays for 2 hours a day'. Playing outside allows the child to look at distant targets. For us, children should play in open environments that require looking more than 6 meters away. This means being in the park, on the street, or in sports fields. Families should not give their children tablets, phones, or computers for more than 20 minutes. Cell phones should never be given to infants.”
